Microcomputer operation with peripheral devices is effected via a device control unit. Such controller activates a shift chain, triplet binary counter and buffer register. A shifting algorithm is offered that makes it possible to combine the functions of a shift chain and a counter in one device. The same performance is achieved with less hardware. The overall number of switching operations to effect a shift and a number of switching operations at a particular time and the consumed power are reduced, whereas the interference immunity increases.
